Shilpa Shetty Opens India Now Festival In London

Shilpa Shetty joined the London Mayor, Ken Livingstone (17/07/07) at London Bridge Pier, as one of the cultural ambassadors to unveil India Now, a three-month festival of events and exhibitions dedicated t to Indian art, film, theatre, music, fashion, food and business.

Shilpa Shetty and Ken Livingstone were joined other ambassadors of the festival, including actress Joanna Lumley and captain of the Indian national cricket team, Rahul Dravid, as they launched the event with a visual spectacle, receiving a replica of the Taj Mahal as it comes to rest at London Bridge Pier, following a sail down the River Thames, past London’s most iconic landmarks.

Shilpa Shetty is a major name in Bollwood making her screen debut at the age of seventeen in Baazigar.

Her role earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.

Throughout the 1990s Shetty had a string of hits including Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Aao Pyar Karen and Pardesi Babu for which she recieved critical acclaim.

However many will know Shetty from appearing in Celebrity Big Brother last year and she became a target of racist bullying from other housemates.

She went on to win the contest.
